RU Pride
President of Internal Affairs
Aug. 2016 - May 2017
Leading RU Pride, some key responsibilities included managing internal operations aimed to improve outcomes for LGBTQIA+ students at Rutgers-Newark. Some events included a trip to Six Flags Great Adventure, while others included networking nights and social gatherings for the students.
Fostering community requires understanding the needs of people. Engaging with our students, my Executive team lead and curated events that were fun, entertaining, educational, and supportive. Events included collaborations with other student organizations, university leadership, community partners, and various entities across the institution.
Throughout the academic year, our events gave other students the opportunity to celebrate art, listen to international narratives, understand history and, most importantly, enjoy their time as a student at Rutgers-Newark. During my time as Co-President of Internal Affairs, I sought to improve and optimize certain processes and methods to improve on recruitment and engagement efforts with students on campus. An example included developing an official email marketing newsletter platform through Mailchimp. This initiative supported reminding members of upcoming events and engagement opportunities throughout the academic semesters.
Some events garnered collaborative support from other student organizations and international partners. Maintaining an intersectional approach, topics ranged from religion and culture to one's sense of identity. Other events focused on continuing annual traditions like the Drag Show, a celebration focused on individuality, creativity, and self-expression.
